SOUTHLAND PLUMBERS
Press Association. , DUNjiDJUS, February, 13. In tbe matter ot tile bouthiand plumbers, gasutters, tinsmuns, and sueet-iuetal workers' ilispuie rue award oi uie court is based lor tne most part on tue recommendation ot tile Conciliation Council. Tne principal alterations made by the court are as follow : The interpretation ot plumbing work has been made tbe same as that in the recent Wellington award The rate tor improvers has been reduced from is od to Is lid per hour, and the period made one year instead of six mouths. “ The clause,” adds the president, “ relating to apprentices has been put into intelligible shape. The Conciliation Councils should follow in such matters the forms settled by the court, as their attempts to improve on the clauses only result in confusion and uncertainty. The preference clause has been re-formed, and the provision for preference to financial members has been struck out. The court is not entitled to grant such form of preference, and the commissioner ought to refuse to embody such provision in any recommendation.” Special provision has been inserted in connection -with municipal corporations and other local bodies.
