MACHINE TO MAKE A RUG A MINUTE
An invention creating considerable interest among textile men is a rugmafiing maonino that will mafic clipped fiearui rugs. 30in wide by 6ft in length, at the exti'aordinary rate of 60 an hour. When it is considered (says "Popular • Mechanics”! that no less than fib2o cloth slips are needed for each rug, and that these are picked up automatically by the machine, placed in the canvas, and the rug completed all within the space of one minute, the capability of the maemne must indeed be great. The only manual labour connected with the rugmaking is said to be the cutting of the cloth slips. An idea of the saving both in time and cost may be gained from the fact that at present it takes one rugmaker four hours to produce one rug, and the cost is about seven pounds per hundred. It is said the new machine will, produce them at a cost of a little o*er one pound per hundred. The most interesting feature of the machine is the spring clips, which automatically pick up the cloth strips from the flexible platform and convey them to the machine. ■
