AMATEUR ATHLETICS
Great interest is being taken in the New Zealand amateur athletic championships to bo decided on the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon. The .entries include all the best performers in the Dominion, and patrons can rely on a day’s good racing. A. W. Dormer (Auckland), the present half and quarter.mile champion, has' arrived in town for the meeting, and ; states he feels very fit. Last year Dormer equalled Burk’s half-mile record of Imin 58 LSsec. The management committee have decided to include on the programme a half-mile boys’ walk and a 220yds schoolboys’ race. Arrangements have been made to have a roped enclosure for officials, which they will occupy when not actually assisting. The public will thus obtain a clear view of every event. The first race will start at 2.15 p.m.
