SWIMMING

THE NORDON CUP. WON BY WELLINGTON REPRESENTATIVES. At Te Aro baths yesterday, there took place the competition for the Nordou Cup, presented by Mr E. Nordoh, of Christchurch, for annual contest between Canterbury and Wellington. The conditions were a water polo match, a 700yds teams race, and a diving competition. As Wellington won the polo and the teams’ race, they secure the trophy. The diving was won by Canterbury. Following were the teams —Wellington: Nelson (goal), Healy, Roberts, Levy, Jenkinson, Smith, and Capper. Canterbury: L. Poison (goal), C. Atkinson,' C. H. H. Rich, G. L. Bull, L. Annand, J. Gemhiell, and J. Stirling. The polo game was closely , contested from start to finish. Wellington were victorious hy 4 goals to 2, but Canterbury proved an exceedingly tough proposition. They were after the ball the whole time. It was evident, however, that 'Wellington were the better side, Healy- being a tower of strength. He scored four goals and Capper 2. Atkinson was Canterbury s foremost player. His long shots were especially dangerous. He scored three goals and Rich one. Mr G: Somervilo was referee, , The 700yds teams’ race was well worth witnessing. It was Wellington 8 race easily, and was won right out. A thrilling contest was that between Atkinson anld Roberts. Atkinson, swimming a strong “brawl,” kept on the heels of Roberts from the jump, and the latter only won the race by a few inches. The Canterbury man’s time was 63 l-6sec, as compared- with Roberts’s 65- 4-ssec. ■ Unfortunately, both men swam crooked courses, thus lengthenihg their times. Wellingtons total ’ time for the-race, was Bmm 7 l-Ssec, the individual performances being Nelson 69scc, Smith 71 2-ssec, Jenkinson 73 2-sseb, Healy 67 l-6sec, Capper 71sec, Levy 69sec, and Roberta 65 4-sseo. Canterbury completed it in Bmin Bsec. Poison, did his distance in 71 2-ssec, Gemhiell in‘73 3-sseb, Rich in 70sec, Bull in 70sec, Stirling in 70 3-ssec, Annand in 69 3-ssec, and Atkinson ih 63 T-sscc. -. Ih the diving event Wellington succumbed by a margin of 2334 points to 213. . Polsoh, Annand, GcnimelL and Rich represented Canterbury, and Kelson, Capper, Healy, and Roberts Wellington;
