POSTAL OFFICIALS

DISCONTENT AT WESTPORT. Press Association. WESTPORT, February 10. At a meeting of tho staff in Westport Post and Telegraph Office tonight, a grievance was ventilated concerning the weakening of tho staff by tho replacing of efficient operators by juniors incapable of doing justice to tho work required of them, and there vras also a protest entered in connection with examinations, members holding that they were required to pass examinations not directly bearing on their work, and that their salaries did not correspond with tho work they wore asked to do. It was also decided to break away from the West Coast centra located at Greymouth and to form a local centre, the staff being sufficiently strong numerically now to enable them to do so.
