“A HERESY-HUNT”
INTENSE EXCITEMENT IN POLITICAL CIRCLES. SYDNEY, February 8. There is intense excitement in political circles as to whether the New South Wales Ministers and the Labour members are willing to submit to the examination by the Special Committee set up by the Political Labour League Conference. The popular feeling at the conference is that members of the caucus are bound to obey the instructions of the conference, and the incident is being dubbed a “ heresy hunt.” The Political Labour League Conference declared for preference to unionists in political matters, and removed from the Executive a new member, on the ground that he was a non-unionist. A special committee was to be appointed to inquire into the attitude of the State and Federal Labour parliamentarians regarding Mr Nielsen’s resignation, the Shearers’ Accommodation Bill and the Blayney by-election.
