OTAKI ROAD BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above board was held oh. Monday. WAIKAWA HRIDGE. A loiter, written at the instigation Of the chairman, in reply to ithe assistant road engineer, was rfead. Ip stated that the board could do nothing with the above bridge, as there were no funds, available, and, further* that steps Were being taken to merge the board into the Hoiowhenua County Council. The chairman stated that Mr Nathan, the engineer* had informed him that complaints had been made by settlers regarding the structure. As the matter of merging was likely to become an accomplished fact the chairman advised the clerk to write and point out the position. The bridge had been condemned, and the board cottld not open it till passed by the. Government engineer. In (answer to questions the chairman said the temporary crossing Was very fair, After prolonged discussion it wag decided that the Government engineer bo asked to prepare plans and estimates for repairs and tot a new structure* and sdbinit Same at earliest convenience. wandering bi’OGK. , : ’ The chairman Said Several Complaints had been received regarding stock wandering on the various roads, and he considered it only fair that the roads should now be closed, . . It was decided that nil Stock, be impounded, and that arrangements be made for securing a ranger. WAERENGA ROAD IMPROVEMENTS. Warden Orabb applied* on behalf of Mr C, Gobding, for grading Work opp O- - his new building* so that he might bo enabled to effect improvements in the ■way of drainage, culverts*, pathways, etc. It was decided that the matter b 8 attended to., . , . MAN ax ait Roads. Wardens Hildreth and Drake drew the board’s attention to the bad stale of the MahakaU roads, the former pointing out that as the board was short of funds no previous application had been made. However, if it could attend to some of the troubles he was sure the residents of Maiiakau woilld appreciate the Board's action. The chairman suggested that the Mhnakau wardens bo authorised to spend Up to A-dO. Authority given. , It was decided to instruct the roadman to. effect repairs to the Waikawa road, where large etones had beoli laid bare by the last floode. OUTSTANDING RATES. It WaS decided that as the hoard Would Shortly be going out of Office* to sue fOr all Outstanding rates after the 26th iiist. IMPROVEMENTS. The chairman said as the board had not exceeded its limit he thought a few pounds might Well be spent oU necessary work in the town.
