SILVER PURCHASES
THB-CASE OP SEE STUART SAMUEL. LONDON, February 2. The House of Commons has carried the motion of the Solicitor-General (Sir John Simon) to refer the question of Sir Stuart Samuel’s retention of hia seat to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. A Parliamentary Committee was recently set up to report on the case of Sir Stuart Samuel, Liberal M.P. for Whitechapel.. whose position as a member of the banking firm of Samuel Montague and Company, through which Indian Government purchases of silver .were made, has been held in some quarters to place _ the member in an undesirable situation.
