THE SOAP TRADE
A STRUGGLE IMMINENT. LONDON, February 3. The London “Observer” states that a struggle is imminent' between Lever Bros,, Ltd., and Brunner, Mend, and Co., Ltd., m the soap trade. Lever Bros, are launching out in new directions in regard to raw materials, and Brunner, Mond, and Co. are invading the manufacturing line, through their interest in Crosfield and Bens, which they purchased in 1911. Brunner, Mond, and Co., Ltd-, are proprietors of mines and manufactories for the purpose of converting salt, etc., into o-Ur/di by ammonia processes. Crosfield and Sons, Ltd., are soap and chemical manufacturers, with factories at Warrington and Liverpool covering about thirty acres, and employing 1800 hands. Lever Bros, own immense works at Port Sunlight. With the exception of a few preference shares, this company holds the entire capital of Vinolia, Ltd.
