WIRELESS TELEGRAPHY
MESSAGES BETWEEN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND. MELBOURNE, February 3. Tho Postmaster-General (Mrs C. E Frazer) has returned from New Zealand. The most important scheme discussed with tho New Zealand Postmas-ter-General (Mr R. H. Rhodes), he laid, related to wireless telegraphy. Mr Frazer considers that it ought to bo possible to transmit messages’ between Australia and New Zealand by wireless for , twopence per word—the present rat© being 4jd. Definite proposals were made to Mr Rhodes regarding communication with cither parts of the world. The proposals included cheapening tho rates for postal notes. No arrangement, howwer, was reached. HON. B. H. RHODES INTERVIEWED. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 3. The remarks of the Hon. C. E. Frazer, Commonwealth Postmaster-Gene-ral, as contained in the cable message from Melbourne to-day, were brought under -the notice of the Hon. R. Heaton Rhodes, Postmaster-General of New Zealand. Mr Rhodes said that the reference in the cable message to the cheapening of rates on postal notes was an error. The matter discussed between tho two Postmasters-General was tho question of the interchange of postal notes between the Commonwealth and the Dominion, or the acceptance by tho Commonwealth of British postal notes issued in New Zealand. At present sums of money cannot be sent from the Dominion to Australia by means of postal notes, and the proposals above referred 'to were, discussed. Mr Rhodes added that_ Mr Frazer and himself were negotiating with regard to tho introduction of wireless telegraphy between Australia and New Zealand, but it was questionable whether wireless could be used for commercial purposes. The matter was still under consideration, and some arrangement mijght bo arrived at.
