BOWLS AND CROQUET
KELBURNE PLAYERS ASK FOR
SPACE.
Renewed application for a lease of a portion of town belt section 48 was made to the reserves committee of tho City Council yesterday afternoon by Mr C. A. Marquis, who was present as a representative of the Kelburne Bowl>ng Club and also of the proposed Ivolburno Ladies’ Croquet Club. Mr Marquis explained that since the last application was made representatives of the two clubs had conferred, with the result that the croquet players were tjuitc willing to join forces with tho bowlers and make combined request for green room. The ladies had not actually formed their club yet, but they coqld see that a separate ground would bo a very expensive matter. Tho bowlers were prepared to spend £IOOO on forming their ground. They proposed to excavate six feet deep at one end and remove 2500 yards of spoil, which could bo used very well to fill the south-west corner of the section to prepare it for a croquet ground. If tho ladies undertook the work themselves, it would probably cost them £750. but by going in with the bowlers they would get their ground for about £2OO. One acre would Tie sufficient for the two grounds. Councillor Barber suggested that the clubs should apply for more than an acre, so as to make a little provision for tree planting. * ‘lf you get the acre you will bo very lucky,” remarked Councillor Cohen.
The request will be the subject, of a report by the council by the committee next Thursday night.
