The Department of Agriculture yesterday received tho following cabled advice from tho High Commissioner in London: “The market closed very strong at best prices in the series. Americana are buying freely. Prospects are favourable. Tho demand exceeds the supply. One thousand bales of New Zealand wool are held over. The following cables were received yesterday from London by firms interested in the sales:

The Bank of New Zealand: '"The sales have closed Arm, and withdrawals are practically nil. Prospects for ail wools next series are favourable. Current prices for South Island farmers’ lots, in average condition;—Coarse crossbreds, 36-40’s quality, lOld to lid per lb; medium crossbreds, 444 G’s quality, lljd to 12Jd; fall- ’crossbreds, 'so’s quality, 13d to lid. Current prices for South Island fanners’ lots (Canterbury style), in average Condition-Inferior merinos (com), eu-dl’s quality, Ud to Hid per lb; superior inerinos (super), SO-61's quality, 141 dto 15k]; half or quarterbred merinos, 56’« quality, 13|d to 14-ld.” Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd.: “Sales have closed firm, 5000 bales being held over. Compared with last London closing rates, greasy merino,-good, advanced 6 per cent, j crossbred greasy, fine, advanced 5 per cent.; all other descriptions of wool, closing rates fully maintained.” The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd.: “The wool sales (closed strong with, good competition: 130.000 bales of wool were sold, of which 43.000 were taken for tho Continent and 8000 for America; 5000 were held oyer. As . compared with last sale’s closing rates, prices are higher by about par to 5 per cent, for crossbred lambs, scoured merino super, and medium gre::*y crossbred; higher by about 5 per cent, for merino inferior, greasy merino; super, scoured merino, medium, and fine greasy crossbred; higher by about 5 per cent, to TS per cent, for greasy merino, medium, and lambs.
