BARS AND BARMAIDS
TEST CASES LISTED. As the outcome of a recent visit of a sergeant of police to the bars of the various hotels in the city, and in connection with the legislation respecting the registration of barmaids, four test eases are to be heard at the Magistrate’s Court next Monday. A question to bo decided is whether certain allegedly unregistered barmaids have a right to carry on their occupations in what are alleged to be either “bars” or “private bars.” In addition, points to be settled relate to the definition of a private bar, and as to whether the words “private bar” mentioned in the Act apply to the rooms in which barmaids are employed. Mr H. H, Ostler will appear on behalf of the Crown, and Mr T. M. Wilford is to represent tie defendants.
