GREYMOUTH FIRE.

(PER PRESS AGENCY.) - Gretmouth, Monday.

A fire broke out in the Union Bank premises this morning at one o’clock. The flames spread with great rapidity, and the Union Bank was burned to the ground; also the painter's and jeweller’s shops in the old Bank of New Zealand premises. The National Bank was also completely gutted, the flames at one time having almost mastered the building ; but the fire brigades working excellently, the flames were stayed, although at one time the whole block seemed doomed. The losses and insurances on the fire are as follows:—Badger lost £503; no insurance. Oh the Union Bank the loss is not ascertained, but it is insured in the Imperial for £400; Victoria, £6OO ; Standard, £SOO, and New Zealand, £2OO. National Bank loss £6OO ; insured in the National for £3OO ; Standard (stock), £2OO, and (building), £125. Smith and Barkley’s loss through removal, £5000; insured in the New Zealand for £550 ; Victoria, £SOO ; South British, £200; Standard, £6OO ; Union, £SOO ; Phoenix, £SOO ; Imperial, £7OO, and Northern, £250. Forsyth and Masters’ loss through removal, £100; insured iii the National - for £250; New Zealand, £500; Victoria, £500; South British, £750, and Imperial, £750.
