FIRE AT AUCKLAND.
(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Monday.
: At' five minutes to six this morning afire was discovered in a shed or storehouse for marine goods, situated near thd residence of David Crank, shipbuilder, Nelson-street. A carter named William Inskip observed flames bursting through the weatherboards of the building, and before assistance arrived the fire was in full possession of the store, and the efforts of the#firemeu were therefore directed, towards localising the fire. The stables of George" Wilson, in which 24 valuable horses are kept, were in danger, as well as several, cottages, but by dint of great exertions the spread of-the fire was prevented.- ■ The store- - house was burnt to the ground, hut the damage was confined to it and its inflammable contents, viz, oakum, resin, pitch, tar, &c. The. damage is estimated at £SOO or"£600:' Neither the shed nor its contents were insured. Gauk has been at Tauranga for three weeks, engaged in assisting to float the Taupo. The origin of the fire is unknown, but the cause is supposed to have been spontaneous combustion.
