QUARTERLY LICENSING MEETING
Tuesday, September 3. (Before Commissioners Mansford, B.M. (chairman), Holdsworth, Kebbell, and Moore.) NEW LICENSES. Mr. Spiers applied for a license for a new hotel at Karori. Inspector Atchison said that a licensed house in the neighborhood was not necessary. There was formerly a licensed house there, and since it had been closed there had not been nearly so much drunkenness in the neighborhood. Application refused. Mr. Moody made application for a license for the ICilbirnie Hotel, Evans Bay. Mr. Moorhouse appeared for the applicant, and stated that a licensed house was very much needed in the vicinity. The nearest licensed house in one direction was a mile away, and in the opposite direction four miles. A petition had been signed by nearly everybody residing in the locality in favor pf a licensed house being established. > Mr. Moody said that the house contained four bar parlors or sitting rooms on the ground floor, besides the bar and kitchen. On the upper storey there were twelve bedrooms and a bath-room. The locality was largely patronised by visitors, and the road leading to it was the principal promenade in Wellington. Mr. White, estate-agent, said that tile house was not quite completed. It was one of the best iu Wellington, and the rooms were largo and well lighted.
