(FEE PRESS AGENCY.),.; • ’ , Patea, Thursday. The Patea District Paces took place to-day. Steady raid fell till nearly 2 o’clock. There ■was a fair attendance. . The following is the result of the several events:— ■ . ■ r • Hurdle Race.—Te Whetumaram-i, 1; Bully-for-You, 2 ; Gazelle, 3. Brigham Young and Luna were scratched. : All cleared the first hurdle well; but Gazelle baulked at the second hurdle, and could not-fetch up again. ; - Plying Handicap.—Luna, 1; Queen of the Vale, 2; Eiora Macdonald, 3. Luna took and kept the lead, and won by two. lengths, amid much excitement.. Queen, of'.the Yale wasthe favorite. Lapland and. Expectation also; started. > . ' • Carlyle, Oup.—Resolution, Opawa, and Reduction started. , Lamouri and Lapland were scratched: This .was a; splendid, race between Resolution and Opawa, and was declared a dead heat;, but ,a. protest .-.was : entered by Resolution. ■ . .i ~ .. • ■ , The weather cleared up in the afternoon.
