SEVENTH SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF WELLINGTON.

Friday, October 12.

The President opened the proceedings with the prayer of the Synod. The minutes of the former day's proceedings were read and confirmed.

The Rev. B. W. Harvey read the report of the committee upon • the trust lands of the diocese.

The Rev. B. W. Harvet obtained leave to suspend Standing Order No. 11, to move without previous notice the following motion : Moved by the Rev. B. W. Harvey, and seconded by Mr. Powles, —That the report of the committee appointed to examine into and report upon the trust lands belonging to the diocese be adopted, and printed in the report. —Carried.

Mr. Didsbury read the report and balancesheet of the treasurer of the Church Chronicle. Mr. Didsbury obtained leave to move without notice' the following motion : Moved by Mr. Didsbury, and seconded by Mr. Marten, —That the report and balancesheet of the Church. Chronicle be adopted and printed in the report.—Carried. The Rev. J. McWilliasi read the report from the Wairarapa Mission from the' Rev. Rueaha Mahauariki.

The Rukal Dean read a second report on the Wairarapa Mission. The Rev. J. McWilliam read the report from the Native Mission on the West Coast. Mr. Clarke obtained leave to move without previous notice the following motion, which was seconded by the RevB. "W. Harvey,—That the reports" on the Maori Mission, read by the Rural Dean and the Rev. J. McWilliam, be printed in the: report, and that the printing committee be instructed to print an extra number of the reports for circulation ; and that an expression of the thankfulness of the Synod at the reports-: should be conveyed to the different districts. The Rtjkal Dean read the report of thecommittee on the parochial returnß. Moved by the Rubal Dean, seconded by Mr. DIDSBDRY, —That the report of the committee on reports from parishes and parochial; districts be adopted and printed in the report.. —Carried.

Moved by Mr. Didsbury, seconded by Mr.. Graham, —That this Synod is of opinion thatthe refusal or neglect of certain parishes or parochial districts to collect the special offertories, directed by Resolution 13, is unfair to. the parishes who have complied with the terms of that resolution; and that the amounts collected in the Wanganui, Marton, Carlyle, and Johnsonville parishes, on the dates named for the holding of such special offertories, should be handed oyer to the Diocesan Treasurer.— Carried.

Moved by Rev. T. Pancotjrt, seconded by Rev. C. H. S. Nicholls,—(l.) That all sums of money paid for the construction of vaults or the erection of enclosures in any burial grounds, excepting the Wellington cemetery, belonging to'the Church, be handed over to the vestry of the parish or the committee of the parochial district in which the burial ground is situated, to be expended in the care and improvement of the said burial ground. (2.) That all sums of money paid for the above purposes now in the hands of the trustees, or held by any one for them, be given to the vestry of the parish or the committee of the parochial district in which the burial ground where the enclosure or erection for which they have been paid is situated, to be expended in the care and im~ provement of the said burial ground. Moved by the Ven. Archdeacon Stock, seconded by the Lat Secretary, as an amendment, —That in accordance with clause 15, section G, of instructions to trustees passed by the General Synod, the Synod resolves that all sums of money paid for the construction of vaults or the erection of enclosures in any burial ground shall be expended in thfr care and improvement of the burial ground.— Carried.

The original motion was therefore lost. Moved by the Rural Dean, seconded by Mr. DIDSBURY, —That this Synad desires to express sincere sympathy with the family of the late Rev. Basil K. Taylor in the great bereavement with which they have been visited since the last meeting of this Synod.— Carried.

Moved by Mr. Didsbnry, seconded by Rev. W. BALLACHEY.—That the thanks of the Synod be given to the secretaries.—Carried. The President thanked the members of the Synod, and olosed the Synod with the benediction.
