A CORRECTION.

TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. gjß^,—in your columns of the 15th instant X notice a Press Agency telegram frou Wanganui respecting the Temperance Conference recently held here, in which the sender misrepresents the case. He says that the speakers " expressed themselves as opposed to Mr. Foxs Bill.” They did no such thing, but on the contrary said that they were there not to support any particular Bill, but to defend the Local Option principle, leaving it to the House of Representatives to direct the working of it. Then again, he carried stating that the meeting was called by circular, and waa not the expression of the inhabitants.” Now the truth is, that the amendment stating that the meeting was called by circular was accepted by the mover, and not put to the meeting separately. The clause “ and was not the expression of the inhabitants” is a fabrication, for not one word of it was contained in the amendment which was made, and accepted by the mover of the resolution. Your informant goes on to state what took place at a public meeting re compensation to publicans; and here again he is not correct in what he says, for there had been no public meeting on the subject. Trusting you will give space to the above, X am, &c., E. G-, Allswoeth. Wanganui, August 20.
