The committee held that the payment of the rate did not entitle the landlord to he placed on the roll, the occupier being on the list for this tenement.
Mr. Thomas Turner’s application to be placed on the roll was not entertained, as the owner’s name appeared on the valuation roll. Mr. P. Morton’s application was rejected, it being held that he had no qualification; and the case of Henry Green was similarly dealt with. Mr. A. Huggins applied to be placed on the roll; but as his name was on it already, his application was unnecessary. The same occurred in the case of T. Stevenson. Mr. Robert Somerville’s application was rejected, as his name appeared on the defaulters’ list. The same remark applied to Mr. A. P. Stuart, for Te Aro and Thorndon Wards. In the case of Mr. H. E. Tuokey it was held that he had no qualification, and the same was held to be the case with Mr. P. Roberts.
The name of ■ Mr. J. Currie had, by a clerical error, been printed “Carey.” The committee recommended that Mr, Currie be placed on the supplementary roll. The name of Mr. J. L. Campbell was altered to T. L. Campbell.
Mr. George Brown’s application was rejected as he had no qualification, as was that of William Donald. Mr. Waddell’s name had been omitted through a clerical error, and the committee recommended that it be placed on supplementary roll. The same was done in the cases of Messrs. George Dixon, Charles Mclntyre, P. Webbe, A. Wilson, Sawes, and H. Green. Mr. J. Herd’s application was rejected on the ground that he had no qualification. The father of applicant, Mr. D. Herd, applied to have his name put on the roll for two other properties for which he had paid rates; but as Mr. Climie and Mr. Hazelden appeared on the roll as occupiers, the application could not be entertained. ■ An application that Mr. Gxllon s name should be taken off the roll in respect of the Argus premises, and the name of Mr. Waters substituted, was rejected. Mr. W. E. Mason’s name appearing on the defaulters’ list, the committee could not entertain his application. The Mayor said he would draw up a report to be submitted to the next meeting of the Council. This concluded the business.
