RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Thursday, August 19. (Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. George Pound was dismissed with a caution. Luke Harris was fined 10s., or in default forty-eight hours' imprisonment. NEGLECTED CHIMNEY. C. Broadbent was find ss, and costs for allowing his chimney to take fire. AN INCORRIGIBLE YOUNGSTER. John Moran, a bootmaker residing in Torystreet, desired his son to be sent to the training ship, Auckland. Witness stated that he had no control over the boy, and had tried all possible ways to check him. The lad was in the habit of stopping away for days together without the consent of his parents. The last time ho ran away he was found in company with some more boys sleeping under a boat. Witness had tried to send him to school, but he would not go. The lad always enjoyed good health, and was not subject to fits. He was ten years old. On further examination, witness stated ho had four children, the eldest was a girl twelve years old. Ho was in such poor circumstances that he could not afford to pay for the lad's maintenance. His Worship made an order committing tho boy to the training ship for four years. CIVIL CASES. Judgment went by default in the following eases:—Geo. D. Beck v. R. H. Vincent, claim £l3 10s.; Eddie and Jack v. Sam Howard, claim £7 17s. 6d.; J. and R. Sloan v. Stewart, claim £6 12s. The following were adjourned till Monday:—Brown v. S. Bell, claim £l3 lis. 6d.; E. W. Mills v. Ganuaway, claim £49 18s. 7d. Mills v. Lawsou, claim £25 lis , was adjourned for a week. Mclntyre v. Lawrent, claim £5 12s. Mr. Allan appeared for tho defendant. Judgment for the amount claimed, with costs.
