THE THAMES PETITION.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir,— ln your paper of Saturday there appears a telegram in reference to me. It is true that I brought the petition referred to, but not the only one. Your correspondent says that the petition was adopted by a fluke. Such is not the case, as it had been printed in the Thames Advertiser and circulated some time before the meeting took place. He also says that the petition is not what it seems to be, but that it is got up by the political opponents of Mr, James Mackay. If your correspondent had seen the signatures to the petition, I think he would change his opinion, as I believe, with one exception, those signing it would give their support and influence to him in the event of his standing for the Thames, so that the political party referred to exists only in the brain of your correspondent.—l am, &c., Adam Porter.
