TRADE REPORT. Sydney, 6th August, 1852.

Exchange on London. — Drafts against gold, 12 pe. I cent, discount ; against wool and tallow, 8 per cent, discount ; Bank drafts, 30 days' sight, G£ per cent discount. ' Tea.— Fair Congou, @ 85s. to'9ss.; Hyson skin, @ 80s. to 90s. Coftet is very much on the decline in consequence of thearrival of Belle Creole, from Ceylon, with 800 bags and 50 casks. Good samples are, however, worth sfd. to 6§d. ; these rates were not expected to be maintained. Sugar. — Stocks very moderate. Pampanga may be quoted @ £19 to £20 ; Zebu, £\7 to £18 ; loaf, £42 to .£44, with a tendency upwards. Brandy. — Small parcels have realised as high as 14s 6d. in bond ; rates are not unlikely to rally and go h'gher, as stocks of all spirits both here and in the other colonies are lower than at any period in the last five years, and with a greatly increased consumption going on. Rum.—'W.l., 10 0.0., @ 4s. 7d. to 4s. 9d.; E. 1., 30 0.0., from 2s. 9d. to 3s. Wines of good quality, ss. to 6s. 6J. per gallon. Flour was from £23 to £25. Gold — 675. per ounce, with a probability of an advance. Candles— Colonial moulds, 4fd. to 5d.; Belmont sperm, 14s. 6d. to 15s. Soap— Best colonial, £26 to i?2B.

On Wednesday, August 4, in the Sydney Legislative Council, The Colonial Secretary stated, that he had received by the Chusan, a communication from the Land and Emigration Commissioners, to the effect that they were taking measures to continue emigration on a large scale, and had already engaged one ship. A communication had also been received from one ofthe Commissioners addressed to his Excellency the Governor General, wherein it was stated that the Board had made arrangements to send oat ten ships per month between this country and Victoria. (Cheers.) He would add that informati >n bad also been received that a regiment of infantry was to be sent here from Hong Kong, as also va-man-of-war to be stationed in this harbour and another in Hobson's Bay. (Cheers.) This was extremely important intelligence ; because it would give the Government the means of controlling seamen, and preventing the desertion which now prevailed ; and also afford facilities for the proper guarding of ships laden wiih gold. (Cheers)

The Bishopric of Christchurch, New Zealand, has been conferred upon the Rev. John Philip Gell, M. A., Curate of St. Gary's Church, Bryanstone-square, and formerly Warden of Christ College, Tasmania. The new diocese of Christchurch will comprise the districts some time since assigned to the diocese, of Lyttelton, and to which the Rev. Thomas Jackson was nominated the first Bishop. Mr. Jackson, however, was not consecrated. — Illustrated London News, May 8. '
