WAIRARAPA RACES.

The first day of the New Year was celebrated at Wairarapa by races, which came off at the Warekaka station (Mr. Clifford’s), and which attracted together the inhabitants or the valley, settlers and maories. There were about three hundred persons on the course. The races were contested with great spirit, and the two principal stakes were won by maori horses, the winner in the Wairarapa Stakes being also ridden by a maori. Judge—Charles Borlase, Esq.
