The match of Cricket alluded to in our last publication came off on Thursday, 16th instant, on Thorndon Flat. The two sides were equalized as nearly as possible by Major Baker and Mr. Raymond. The toss was won by the latter, who put his opponents in. Play commenced before 12 o’clock, but the first innings of both parties did not terminate until 4 p.m., when all adjourned to partake of a most capital lunch provided by Mr. Munn, of the Royal Hotel. The game was resurneu immediately after lunch, and finished about 20 minutes past 7 o’clock. Owing to the very high wind, and the extremely dry state of the ground, neither bowling nor fielding were so good as might have been expected. There was, however, some very good batting, and several large scores were obtained. Major Baker’s side made first innings 83, second innings 136. Mr. Raymond’s 131 and 66—the former winning by 22 runs.
