MATCH PLAY COMMENCED FIRST ROUND DECIDED SEVERAL SURPRISE RESULTS [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Sunday Conditions were ideal at tho St. Andrews links yesterday, when tho first round of match play in tho Hamilton Golf Club's championship events was decided. There were several surprise results, and tho club championship now bears a very open aspect, as a result of I{. F. Edmonds' defeat by it. J, .Love. Following are tho results: —

TOURING PLAYERS BRITISH LADi ES' TEAM MATCH AGAINST SOUTH ISLAND [ilT TELEGRAPH —PHES3 ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday Tho following golf tenm l as been selected to represent the South Island against tho British women's touring team at Shirloy:—Miss V. Fleming. Miss B. Rutherford. Miss J. Stevenaon (Christohurch), Miss J. Horweli (Timaru). Emergency; MVs. A. C. McKillop (Christchurch). The match will be played on Saturday, October 5, with singles in the morning and foursomes in tho afternoon.
The British team will arrive at Wellington next Monday and will go on that night to Dunedin. Th« tour will include matches at Dunedin, Christchurch (October 5), Wangnnui, Rotorua and Auckland. The visitors will return to Wellington for a match with a New Zealand women's team at Miramar on ■ October 16. The visitors will take part in the New Zealand women's championship tournament, which 'will be held on tlie Wellington Club s links at Heretaunga from October 17 to October 24. It is possible that another match with tho New Zealand team will be arranged at Heretaunga. The members of the British team are:— Misses Phyllis Wade, Jessie Anderson and ['am Barton and Mesdames Walker, Greenlees and Hodson (the lust-named being manager).

The competition was won by P Jury J. Wright being runner-up.
