PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Sir George Grey, X.C.8., Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, and Governor of the Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c, &c , &c. • WHEREAS, by a Proclamation bearing date the 1 8th day of January, 1 844, the Colony of New Zealand, for the purposes of the Ordinance for establishing a Supreme Court, was divided into two districts, by the name of the Northern and Southern Districts •. Jnd whereas it is expedient that the Southern District should be subdivided : Noiv, therefore, I, the Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, pursuant to the authoiity in me vested in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that that part of the Colony of New Zealand heretofore included within such Southern District shull, for the purposes of the said Oidinance,be divided into two distiicts, to be called the Middle and Southern Districts, And I do hereby proclaim and declare that the Middle District shall include all that pottion of the Northern Island of New Ulster lying to the southward of a line commencing from a point on the coast two miles if} a straight line southward of the mouth of the River Wairoa, in Hawke's Bay; thence in a straight line to the highest summit of tbe mountain usually called Tongariro ; thence along the highest ridge lying between
