that mountain and the summit of Mount Egmont ; from the summit of Mount Egmont to the source of the Otu Matua to the sea; and all that portion of the Island of New Munster lying to the northward of the 42 degree of south latitude, and also so much of the sea adjacent thereto as lic.-j within the jurisdiction~of' the Vice Admiral of New Zealand •. And that the Southern District shall include all that portion of the Colony of New ~ Zealand which li< a to the southward of the 42 degree of south latitude, together with somuch of the sea adjacent thereto as lies within the jurisdiction of the Vice Admiral of New Zealand. And whereas, by the said Supreme Court Ordinance, the Governor is empowered to assign to each of the districts into which the Colonymay be divided, a Judge or Judges, Avho shalL have within the same all the powers and . jmisdiction thereby given to the Supreme Court : Now, therefore, I, the Governor, in pursuance .of such authority, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have assigned to the Middle District, Henry S\muel Chapman, Esq., Judge of the Supreme Court ; and to the Southern DisLrict, Sydney bTiiPiiEN, Esq., Judge of the Supreme Court. PROCLAMATION.
By His Excellency Sir George Grey, X.C.8., Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, aud Governor of the Provinces of i\ew Ulster and New Munster, and Vice Admiral of the same, &c, &c. WHEREAS, by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the High Court of Admiralty, bearing date the thirtieth day of December, in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty- six, Her Majesty has been graciously pleased to ordain, constitute, and appoint me, Sir George Grey, X.C.8., to be H.M. Vice Admiral, Commissary, and and Deputy, in the Office of Vice AdmiiM ly in the said Islands of New Zealand, and Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and territories thereon depending ; to take cognizance of, and proceed in, all cases, civil and maritime, and in complaints, contracts, offences, or suspected offences, crime&, pleas, debts, &c.,&c, within the maritime jurisdiction of the' Vice Admiralty of the said Islands of New Zealand, and Provinces of New Ulster and New Munster, and territories depending on the same', to hear and determine the same according to the rights, statutes, laws, and ordinances, and customs anciently, observed; with power of deputing and sunogating in any place, for the premises, one or more deputy or deputies :—: — Now 1, the Governor-in-Chief in and over the Islands of New Zealand, in pursuance of the authority in me vested in that behalf, do hereby appoint Henry Samuel Chapman, Esq., a Judge of thb said Supreme Court, my Deputy in and for the Middle District of the Province of New Munsler, and Sydney Stephen, Esq., a Judge of the said Supreme Couit, my Deputy in and for the Southern District of the said Province of New Munster, with full power to take cognizance of, and proceed in all matters, and to hear and determine the same in manner prescribed by the said recited Letleis Patent. Given under my hand, and issued under the Public Seal of the aforesaid Islands of New Zealand, at Government House, Auckland, in the Province of New Ulster, this thirty-first day of July, in the Year of our Lord, One Thousand eight Hundred and fifty.
