MEETNG OF CREDITORS. i i i ; I I I A meeting of creditors in the ] | hankrupt estafe of Alexander James ; | Adamson, butcher, of Waitaki, was held on Thursday, the Deputy Of- ; ficial . Assignee (Mr A. W. Woodl ward), presiding. Bankrupt was re- | presented by his solicitor (Mr P. C. Hjorring) and the following creditors were present: de Lambert Bros. i (Mr J. Miller), C. W. Greig, storekeeper, Puekuri, and E. II. Watson, storekeeper, Glenavy. A lengthy list of unsecured creditors showed bankrupt's liabilities to he £247 11s 2d. His assets were nil. In a signed statement, bankrupt said he had had illness in his family. He hadi four children, the eldekt being six years. Up to about twelve months ago he was working : for wages and doing his best to pay off back debts. He started butchering, but it was not a success and he went further into debt. He was working for his father at present j and could make no offer to his ; creditors. Bankrupt, sworn, stated that an account due to the National Mortgage was for goods purchased at a clearing sale. The only amount owing to him from his business, a cash i one, was £2. He used to attend race ] meetings and also did a little bet- j ting. He had a third interest in a ! Ford car which was scrapped. He horrowed £3 from Mr .Greig, but did not borrow to go to the races. Replying to Mr Watson, bankrupt said he did not send money tothe races from Glenavy. He telephoned bets away,., hut did not pay for them. He did ribt spend two or three hours a day at the Glenavy Hotel, but when he deiivered meat he sometimes wasted an hour at the hotel. He used a horse and cart, the , animal belonging to Mr T. Clare : and the cart to his father. To Mr Greig, witness said ihe ac- 1 count due to a taxi-driver was for | a fare from the Dunedin races. J The winding-up of the estate was I left in the hands of the Deputy Of- j ficial Assignee. ;
