AUCKLAND, Last Night. It is reported that a great deal of cargo pillaging took place during I the voyage of the steamer Middlesex which arrived at Auckland from England on Wednesday. Thefts were diacovered at sea ' and on arrival here a search was carried out by the police who recovered a quantity of the stolen goods The pillagers gained entrance to the hold through a small hole in the lazarette near the seamen's quarters. and many cases of valuabb goods were opened. Ladies' coats fancy pull overs and other article' of clothing were taken, and severa cases of tobacco and cigareftes were also pillaged. Four seamen on tlv Middlesex — Frederick Williai; Saunders (19) James John Titcomh' (17), Joseph Bacon (21) and A! bert Beagley (19) were charged h the poliJce court with embezzliir from the vessel's cargo 12 hanker chiefs, two overcoats and six cushion covers of a total value of £0 the property of the New Zealanf Shiping Company.
