Wm. Chtdwick's timber mill at Pahi, Kaipara, was destroyed by fire yesterday. The building was insured with the New Zealand Insurance Company for L2OOO, L1375 of which was reinsured in other offices— Norwich Union L4OO, South British L4OO, National L275, Alliance L3OO. For larrikinism at Newton Ernest Grant and Arthur M'Keown were each fined 1.6, or 14 daya ; Daniel Kelly, 14 days* imprisonment ; John Jones, alleged to be the ringleader, for being drunk and disorderly, two months. Three other charges against accused were adjourned. Mr Northcroft, S.M., held up the list of offences for which the accused was punished. These are as far back as 1884, and included the offences of larceny and assault. On one occasion he was flogged, on another sentenced to thrco months' hard labor, and on another one month for assault. A deputation of Karangahape Road shop, keepers waited on Inspector Ilickson for increased police protection. Ho said he would recommend the Government to grant an additional constable to the station, and in the meantime he would station two plain clothes men, with a view to breaking up the Newton push
