OPERATIONS IN THE CARIBBEAN
Washington, Aug. 27. Three ships have been torpedoed and sunk, two of them within the space of four minutes and one at night in the Caribbean in the first l§rge-scale assault since June, when convoying was introduced. They included a mediumsized United States mei chant vessel. It is believed that two submarines attacked two vessels which were travelling close together. A radio operator explained that the submarines have changed their tactics and now lie in wait for passing vessels, spring up to make a quick attack, and then retire.—P.A.
