STORM DAMAGE
ROOFS BLOWN OFF BUILDINGS TREE SMASHES SHED AND TRUCK Reports of damage in districts between Nelson and Maori Pah indicate that the heavy south easterly winds ex perienced eariy in the week were fell more severely there than they were locally. On Mi W J Harvey , property at Cable Bay. hall the roof of a large shed was lifted off by the gale and sheets of iron blown several hundred yards away. Similar damage was done at the Maori Pah where shed roofs, and in one case some of the rafters also were blown off. In the Teal Valley a lighi truck belonging to Mr E. G. Westley was damaged beyond repair when a tree was blown across a car shed, destroying the shed and the car. A hay shed in Mr E. G. Westley’s property was blown right over, the piles being still attached to the foundations. A woolshed in the Lud Valley, on Mrs Bunten’s property, was blown over and completely demolished. Settlers in the district have never experienced such severe gales before. Roads m the locality were blocked by fallen trees but were cleared yesterday.
Nelson fishermen who have had years of experience in Cook Strait state that it was the worst south-easterly weather, they had ever experienced.
