CORONER’S VERDICT CANCELLED

DEATH OF DUNEDIN MAN ’ POLICE THEORY CHALLENGED (By Telegraph—Presß Association) DUNEDIN, This Day. After tho coroner had returned his verdict at the inquest on John Charles Styche, who was found drowned in a baby car in a lagoon near St. Leonard's early on the morning of 4th January, events took a somewhat sensational 1 turn when a relative of deceased stepped forward to challenge the police reconstruction of the accident. Although the deceased left Dunedin after the theatre to drive home to Port Chalmers in a car of which he took delivery that afternoon, the police evidence was that the position of tho car indicated it had left the road when travelling from Port Chalmers. The deceased’s relatives said they believed that the marks found on which the police based their theory were made bv a car of similar make which-was parked at that spot nearly every night. Their belief was that deceased had been forced off the road by the other car travelling round a corner on the wrong side. The coroner then cancelled bis verdict, adjourning the inquest for investigation.
