BOWLING
DOMINION TOURNAMENT PLAY IN THE PAIRS (By Telegraph— Preßs Association) AUCKLAND, 14th January. Three rounds of play in the pairs championship of the Dominion of New Zealand bowls tournament were held to-day, 236 teams participating. They were in eight sections and occupied 19 greens of 16 clubs. The weather on the whole was good, although showers in the late afternoon caught some of the competitors in the last round and delayed play. The wind, which was moderate in the morning, increased as the day wore on and made games in the last two rounds rather tricky. The greens were in fine condition and many games were keenly contested. Brackebush and Walker (Auckland), who won the pairs championship in 1927, had three wins to-day. The first game with the Epsom pair, Hooper and Mcßeath, was a close contest, the Auckland Club players just getting home by one point. TI. Jenkin (Carlton), who won the title along with G. Gladding in Dunedin last year, and is partnered on this occasion by Clarke, had an easy win in the first round over Wilding and Dunphy (Maitai, Nelson). Dunphy was lead for Logan when the Nelson pair won the championship at Christchurch in 1928. MAITAI CLUB TOUR GAME AGAINST LYTTELTON (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The Maitai bowling team were the guests of the Lyttelton Bowling Club
yesterday afternoon. The visitors were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr W. T. Foster, and Mr W. C. G. Taylor on behalf of the club. Mr G. Simpson, returning thanks on behalf of the visitors spoke of the hospitable way they had been treated during their stay at Christchurch. There had been one' exception, and that- was the fact that they had not been allowed to win any cf the matches. He thought perhaps that the Lyttelton Club might extend their hospitality a little further than their Christchurch friends. The games resulted as follows (Lyttelton names mentioned first): R.
