As the wool sale progressed it became apparent that values were not to be on a par with Wellington, but rather on a par with the December Napier sale. With a slight weakening tendency at times, bidding continued spirited but within limits. SYDNEY WOOL SALES (Received 13th January, 9.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. At the wool sales 10,742 bales were offered and 9,350 were sold; also 953 which were disposed of privately. The average price of wool sold last week was 7.2 d. There was good competition at to-day’s sale and values were excellent. Greasy merino ’made 18.fd. : SLUMP IN SHEEP SKINS (Received 13th January, 10.15 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day, Of a catalogue of 30,000 skins offered at thr, first sheepskin sale at Adelaide since the 15th December not one lot was sold. There are now over 100,000 skins awaiting sale. FROZEN MEAT MARKET

Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivered” basis, ie., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.): —North Island Down lambs, 28/36 9cl per lb, 36/42 9/d; best North Island crossbred lambs, 28/36 Bgd, 36/42 Bfd; North Island 2nd quality lambs, average 30/31 8/d; best North Island wether sheep under 481bs 5/d, 48/56 4|d, 56/64 4/d, 64/72 4/d; North Island ewes under 481bs 3/d, 48/56 3/d, 56/64 3§d, 64/72 3d; New Zealand prime ox beef 160/220 4/d. As compared with last week’s quotations, North Island Down lamb 28/36 §d per lb. lower, 36/42 §d per lb lower, best North Island crossbred lamb -|d per lb lower, best North Island wethers under 481bs and 48/561bs gd per lb lower, 56/72 /d per lb lower, North Island ewes under 481bs and 64/72 /d per lb lower. There is a poor demand. All prices are likely to decline in the near future.
