LOSS OF THE TRICOLOUR
NATURE OF CARGO STORIES BY SURVIVORS (United Press Association —By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright) SINGAPORE, lltli January. A brief story of the loss of the Norwegian steamer Tricolor, after an explosion off Colombo on the sth January) with six lives, was told on the arrival here of the French steamer Porthos with survivors, some of whom are suffering burns and have been sent to hospital. It is understood that the Norwegian consul is inquiring. No details regarding the nature of the Tricolor’s cargo arc revealed. There are also certain questions to be answered by the Norwegian Government. Nevertheless survivors’ stories are significant Hftorgersen, a young Norwegian passenger, said that tho first explosion occurred while they were resting after lunch. Then explosion after explosion followed and in five minutes the ship was a mass of flamos. Huge weights were thrown about great distances. Ihe explosions appeared to come from amidships. Some of the Tricolor survivors afterwards clung to drums similar to those used for packing cordite.
