The Rt. Hon. the Prime Minister was to have attended the annual dinner of the Auckland Commercial Travellers' and Warehousemen's Association this evening, but owing to his inability to leave Wellington the dinner has been postponed until Saturday evening. The Minister of Education \\;ill leave Wellington for Auckland to-night to represent the Government at the function. Cable advice from Suva announces the death there on Monday of Mr H. (Bnvt) De Mans, a brilliant batsman and one of the best all round cricketers of his day (telegraphs "The Mail's" Christchurch correspondent). He was a member of the Lancaster Park Club and for a period covering the seasons from ISflO to 1897 was regarded as the most consistent batsman l in Canterbury and one of the leading batsmen of the Dominion. Mr W. R. Millicr, who has been in Nelson during the past five years as accountant in the Nelson District Public Trust Office has been transferred to Head Office staff with headquarters at Napier. Mr Millier's position, in Nelson will be taken by Mr D. Eeckhoff of Christchurch. Mr W. O. Clark, a member of Mr L. X. Montgomery's garage staff died from pneumonia yesterday after a week's illness. The deceased will be greatly missed by his fellow employees and by many motorists who knew him. He leaves a widow and one child. The death is reported from Marton of Mr Alexander G. Simpson,, chairman of the Rangitikei County Council, and prominently identified with numerous local btxlies, aged 65 years. He was a son of the late lion. R. K. Simpson and was at one time one of the foremost athletes in the Dominion.—Press Association.
