INFLUENZA AND THE SCHOOLS

ATTENDANCES NOT SERIOUSLY AFFECTED Attendances at the Nelson schools and Colleges have been affected somewhat by the prevalence of influenza, but not enough to cause consideration of closing, which has been tlhe case in some other towns. All schools maintained over 80 per cent, attendances last week, and although this allows for a good number of absentees, the position is by no means serious. Last week at the Girls' College, the attendance was, in the words of the principal, "quite fair," but there has been a falling off over the last few days. There were depleted classes at the Boys' College last week, but the attendance has been picking up this week. The influenza, among younger people at any rate, appears to be of a mild type, requiring several days only to recover, if properly handled.
