NEW AMERICAN STEAMERS

MAMMOTH LINERS (United PrcßS Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian Press Association) (Received 18th July, 9.55 a.m.) NEW YORK, 17th July. A message from Boston states that Joseph Sheedy, president of the United States lines, announced that the. construction of two new liners will commence early in 1930. They will bo modelled after the Leviathan, hut both will be larger. The new vessels are expected to he completed within three years. They will he 956 feet long with a displacement, of 56,000 tons, and will accommodate 4000 passengers. Mr Sheedy stated that the. company's policy will he to add one ship per annum to the fleet.
