THE AUCKLAND POLICE. A RAID AT INVERCARGILL. [United Pbess Association.] AUCKLAND, Wednesday. The method adopted by the police in securing, evidence of Sunday trading was severely condemned by Mr Kettle, S.M., in the Police Court to-day, Mr Mays, the assistant Crown Prosecutor, admitted that th? police were sent down to St. Hclier's Bay for the express purpose of securing a conviction for Sunday trading. "Is this practice," asked the Magistrate, "to induce those people to commit a breach of the law!" Mr Kettle contended "that offenders should be cletect?d. not entrapped." INVERCARGILL,~Wednesday. The police last night made raids at the Carriers' Arms (Poff's) and the Shamrook Hotel (McAuliffe's), and liquor was seized at both houses. Prosecutions will probably follow.
