Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 19, 1881.

The annual treat of the children attending the Sunday Schools in connection with Christ Church and All Saints' Church will take place to-morrow, when a special train will start for the country at 10-30 a.m. It will be seen by our report of the proceedings of the City Council last night that it was decided, and we think rightly so, to retain the salaries of the officers of the Cor. poration at the same rates as hitherto. A resolution, at which none of them can complain, was adopted, forbidding their accepting any employment outside of their duties aB) public officers. The meeting of the Coancil lasted orer three hours, and the question was throughout fairly and temperately discussed. The Blenheim Rifle Volunteers, at the conclusion of the parade on Tuesday wetk, held a meeting at which it was decided to select by competition seren representatives to go to the New Zealand Rifle Association Meeting at Nelson.
