CnniSTcnoßcn, Friday. At a public meeting held last night it was resolved to form an amateur Athletic Club for Christchurch. A deputation of the promoters of the Naval Brigade waited on the Premier yesterday and stated that 190 names had been received and asked for free passes on the rail way when on duty. Permission to use the big guns in Lyttleton was also solicited and a supply of small arms, and a drill instructor. The Premier promised to lay the matter before the Government. A heavy rain last night greatly benefited all the crops. The weather is now fine. Donedin, Friday. The Times says that the following Magisterial changes are to take place: Mr Beetham will be. removed from Timaru to Wellington ; Capt. M'llish from Christchurch to Timaru 5 Mr Whitefoord from Kaiapoi to Christchurch; Mr Beswick from Lyttelton to Kaiapoi; Mr Watt to Oamaru ; and Mr Wood to Invercargill. Messrs Parker and McCulloch will retire on pensions. Wellington, Friday. The enquiry into tbe wreck of tbe Hannah Broomfield. is prooeeding. The Captain attributes the accident to tha baffliDg wind wbich caused the vessel to miss stays. The Zealandia with the London mails of the 9th ulfc. left San Francisco for Auckland on the 25th, being ia advance of her sailing date. The City of Sydney with tho September colonial mails arrived at San Francisco on the sth instant, just two days in advance of her contract date. Auckland, Fridaq. The Education Reserves Commission have divided £702, the receipts from tho primary reserves, ns follows :— £672 to the Auckland Education Board, and £30 to Hawke's Bay. The civil aotion, the Government v. C. J Young, claim for £1680 being balance due to the Trensury, is withdrawn, the account having been referred to the Registrar. The case of Col beck, M.H.R., v. Robertson, claim for £6000, is also withdrawn. The real issue was whether under a purchasing clause the defendant was bound to sell at the price covenanted for, namely, 12s 6d per acre. The present value of the land is stated to be £3 per acre. The basis of the settlement is at the original price and tho defendant is to pay the costs. Joe, the New Hebrides murderer, under sentence of death, has been supplied with tobacco. Mr Moss, M.H R., intends shortly to meet his constituents. At a public meeting last night a Committee was formed to raise subscriptions for the widow Rees whose husband was recently murdered.
