EDUCATION BOARD.
The monthly meeting was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Barnicont, Shephard, Routj Graham, Campbell, and the Bishop of Nelson. A letter from Miss M'Phee requesting an allowance towards her travelling expenses; having been read, it was resolved that the application cannot be entertained. Resolved, That the application of the Town Committee for payment of a substitute at Hampden street school during Miss Sun-i leys- illness cannot be complied with. Resolved. That Mr C. Parker's claim for, plans be not entertained. Resolved, That Mr Ray be requested to certify as to the propor completion of the new school at Karamea. Resolved, That the Secretary be instructed that the Board will not recognise any orders, for payment for work done for the Board to others than the person entitled thereto by i agreement with the BoArd. Resolved, That tbe Chairman of the Col- . lingwood Committee be requested, to bave the repairs at the teachei'a house executed . at a cost not to exceed £15. Resolvedj That the resignation by Mr Blyth of the Collingwood school be accepted, and that the Board desires to express its sympathy with his friends on the unf ortunate : cause of such resignation. : Resolved, That the Board advertise for a , master for the Collingwood school at a salary of £120 per annum and house. Resolved, That the report of the; Board of Examiners on the application for the mastership cf Lower Takaka school be adopted, and the name of Mr A. E. Langford bo forwarded to the Local Committee as being the only eligible candidate. Resolved, That the request of the Karamea Committee be acceded to and that they be allowed a sum not exceeding £27 19s for fencing the school reserve. Resolved, That no change be made as to tbe Bank in which the Board deposits its account. Resolved, Tbat the Treasurer be authorised to deposit the surplus funds of the Board in ', sums of £200 on fixed deposit for twelve ! months. Resolved, That the arrangements con- j nected with the placing of two pupil teachers j with Miss Snart be left .with the Town j Committee.
Resolved, Tbat the consideration of the price list of school book 3 be deferred until next meeting. Resolved, That the School Committees be requested to favor the Board with information on the working of the present system of selling books to the school children. Resolved, That an assistant for Black's Point school be advertised for at a salary of £60 per annum. A copy of the Stamp Act Amendment Act having been received from the Education Department it was laid before the Board, aud it was observed that by the Act all receipts from teachers and other servants of the Board will, in future, require to be stamped. A letter haviDg been road from the Secretary of the Education Department asking the Board's concurrence in an , arrangemeut by which the services of the inspector will be _t the disposal of the Department in the examination, ot teachers, it was resolved, that the Board comply with the request. Resolved, That the Secretary examine as to the boundaries of-the land referred to ih the notice received from thd District Laud Registrar, aud if the same be incorrect, he, in conjunctibn with the Chairman, take steps to. have them rectified. ... Resolved, That the Inspector enquire into the school requirements and present school arrangements at Capleston On his next visit to the neighborhood, and report to ..ft. future meeting of the Board. Resolved, That the resignation of Miss Blyth of the assistant teachership at Upper Wakefleld be accepted. Bcsolved, That the Secretary write to the Chairman of the Upper Wakefield Committee, and ask if they desire the Boat d to appoint a successor to Miss Blyth at once, aud without first submitting the. candidates names to them. iiesolved, That a statement be laid before the Board at its next meeting showing the stock of books in tlie hands of each teacher at the commencement of tbe current year ; the value of the books supplied to each school for the past half year, with the amount of cash received from «ach teacher on account of sales of books, and the debit balance for tbe books against each school ; also showing the number of children on the roll of 6ach school, and the average attendance. Resolved, That the Financial Committee be reappointed. Resolved, That a Sub committee, consisting of the Bishop of Nelson and Messrs Rout and Graham be appointed to determine tha necessary arrangements, and to invite tenders for the fittings, &c, at Haven Road School. Resolved, That on his next visit to Tadmor the Inspector make enquiries as to the number of children likely to attend a school at the Sherry. Noiice of motion : Mr Rout to move tbat the sum of £4 4s. be allowed the Stoke Committee to enable them to pay for a new yen tilator at the school.
