LATEST FROM AFGHANISTAN.
Calcutta, August 4. Intelligence has been received from Afghanistan that Ayub Kban has advanced to Merkaz for the purpose of attacking the British troops under General Pbayre, who reached Chaman recently from the Bolan Pass on their way to reinforce General Burrows et Candahar, hut were unable to proceed owing to the disturbed state pt the country. It is further stated tbafc Ayub is sending a strong force to intercept supplies from the Bolan Pass. Later. Orders have been sent to General Koberts to march, with the northern division of the British army in Afghanistan, numbering 10,000 men, to the relief of General Burrows at Candanar. General Koberts lias further been ordered to act in conjunction with the troops under Generals Phayre and Sandeman from the Bolan Pass, so that the combined forces may operate upon Ayub Kban. It now transpires that the telegraph line between Cabul and the frontier was not cut by hostile tribes as at first supposed, but was interrupted from some other cause.
