CORRESPONDENCE.
THE MOUNT ARTHUR CLAIM. To the Editor of thb 'Evening Mail.' Sir—l regret that your contemporary, the Coionist, leads itself to auch a false report as that which appeared in its to-day's issue. I have to say: — Ist, That proceedings cannot be taken in the matter ; 2nd, If they were taken I should, as agent of the logitimate claimants, be the first to hear the fact ; 3rd, There is no such thing as & " certificate of lease," and lastly, that I don't believe our worthy and respected Dr. Irvine gave hie consent to have his name used in such a manner. The object of the insertion is to ■prevent the owners introducing foreign capital to work a local industry, and I feel quite certain that the people of Nelson will treat the futile attempt with the contempt that it justly deserves. I am, &c, James Byrnb. Nelson, Feb. 19, 1880.
