WAIMEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Wbdnesdaj, 18th February, 1880. Council met; present all the member*. Minutes of laat meeting read and confirmed. The Chairman laid on the table an estimate by the Receiver of Land Ke venae, as desired by the Council , of the proportions in which the land revenue accruing to the County had been contributed from the lands sold in the several Highway District! as follows :— Waimea Highway Board, fourtenths ; Motueka Highway Board, threetentha ; Upper Motueka Highway Board, two-tenth* ; Suburban North Highway Board, one-tenth. Ou the motion of Mr Bird, seconded by Mr Macmabon, it was resolved, That the sum of £147 9s 7d paid to the County fund during the year as land revenue be divided among the Highway Boards in the proportions given, on conditions that the sums thus entrusted to the Boards be spent, in rendering accessible those localities which bad contributed to the revenue.

A circular frdm the Colonial Secretary's office enclosing copies of a Bill to provide for the management of hospitals and charitable institu tions was read, staking for siich; suggestions us to amendment of its provisions as might occur to the Council after its mtture consideration , On the motion of Mr Shephard, seconded try Mr Macmahon, it was resiolved, That the Bill be takan into consideration at its next meeting 1 , and that in the meantime tha copies <-f the Bill be circulated amongit id members. Mr Macmabon, according to notice, proposed, Tbat a grant of £10 bo made toward* supporting clubs or associations for checking the increase of those small birds which are found to be exceedingly destructive to crepe. Mr Shephard proposed, and Mr Welle sbconded; the following amendment i— " That this Council has ho authority in la* t« «z---pend its funds in the maDner propoMd." Amendment carried. On the motion of Mr Shephard, seconded by Mr Bird, it was resolved, That the Chairman take all necessary stepg in connsotien with the preparation of the electoral roll required by Part 111 of the Counties JL«t, rind M.this j^rpo'se ria.so.on as the valaation rolls of. the several Highwiy BWdi shall hay« pasatd the Assessment Cfouri, application be mads to tha Hiyhvay Boards for copies of such rolls at the cost of the Council, and as regards the outlying districts, *hat' Mr Malcolm be requested to revise the roll prepared by him last year. A letter was read from the inhabitants of Eighty-eight Valley and Quail Valley, making application for assistance ia completing the. road through Quail Valley. On th« motion of Mr Dencker, seconded by Mr Wells, it was resolved* That tho Council b*i no power to deal with this question, and by doing so it would be entrenching on the duties of the Highway Board of tb* district. The Chairman stated that ihe sum of 4155 7s applied for as progress payment out of the " Nelson and WMtport Road " voi« had been remitted by the Government, and that the sum of £169 19s 3d h»d been sin«* advanced to the Upper Motueka Highway Board from the sam* vote, exclusive t of *h» sum of £34 applied for to-day. Tha Chairman reported, that the appoiatment of Dog Registrars' for the Ridinf s «f Motu«ka, Wangapeka, and Waiiti, raooanmeaded by tbe Council, had been made by the Governor and duly gazetted. A letttr from the Colonial Secretary's office was read, stating that a notifi»ati»« of the alteration made b/ the County Council In the names of three of the Ridings withis the County of Wairnea had been published ia the Government Gazette. A letter w»» read from the Public Works Office, in reply to tht request of tha Council that the railway bridge proposed ;to b* erected over the Wai-fti river should he widened so as to afford accommodation for ordinary traffic, expressive of the inability of the Minister for Public Workt to comply with such request, adding tbat the Minister it prepared to consider tbe erection of a double bridge, provided the County is willing to find the cost. The Chairman stated that, as requested by the Council, he had made specific application to the Government for a share of money voted for Public Works within the County, but he bad not received a definite replj. The application of James Delaney for a license under the Slaughter houses Act was granted. The Council adjourned to Wednesday, March 17th next, at 11 o'clock.
