Elsewhere will be found a report of the proceedings at the Collingwood election. A perusal of that report will, we feel sure, have the effect of inducing every elector of the district living on this side to go'over and record his vote on Thursday next in favor of Mr Gibbs, and against the other two candidates, one of whom has professedly appeared in the field as a representative of Canterbury ;interests, and the other of those of Otago What the people of the Collingwood district
can be thinking of to allow themselves to be misled by these two individuals we cannot conceive, but it appears that the tfro strangers are likely to obtain a certain amount of supoort> and iu tSrde*: to make sure that a Nelfton district does not return an outsider it will be necessary for those residing in the town and suburbs to put themselves to a little inconvenience. We understand that arrangements are being made to run a rtoarner across the Hay in order to enable voters from here to attend. The Customs receipts for the week ending this day were £525 2s Id. Mu. K. Levien quotes be<st br.ker3' flour at £12 per ton, with an upward tendency. Thers has been a good deal of excitement in town to-day over the ejection, Aud cabe bearing large placards have been f'ylng round ever since 0 o'clock. There appears to be an immense arnuunt of uncertainty as to the result, us each candidate is ruuning alone, and it ia believed that the amount of plumpers will be found to be very large. The result will probably be made known about \ half-past five. Mr Richmond held a well attended and very successful meeting at Appleby last night, when the chair was taken by Mr Kelliug. Thk polling for the Suburbs takes place on Monday next. Electors of the district residing iu Nelson will be able to record their votes at the Provincial rtall. Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church to-morrow at '9 o'clock, and at Wakefield at eleven.
