King and another was brought to a close yesterday when the jury gave a verdict for the plaintiff for £150 with leave to move the Court above for £1400.— The case of the Napier Harbor Board is fixed for to-day.— The annual meeting of the Canterbury Coursing Club was held yesterday when the balance sheet showed that the receipts during the season had been £464, of which, after paying all expenses, there was a smail balance in hand. It was resolved to recommend the Committee to comply with the request of the North Otago Coursing Club to send delegates to a a general meeting to consider the question of a New Zealand Waterloo Cup.-— The opening of the through line from Christchurch to Invercargill will take place this day week.— Tbe weather is beautiful, and there is a large attendance at the reaper and binder contest. — The rainfall on Monday was 215 inches. Several members were accused of speaking against time to defeat the intetions of the majority of the Council who were in favor of Clarke's drainage scheme, and of placing , its carrying out under the city engineer, instead of under Mr Cline, who also drew up a drainage scheme. The Council eventually decided to adopt Mr Clarke's scheme, and leave the city engineer to see it carried out, adding that if Mr Climie had any claim upon the Corporation it sLould be paid. —At Rignold's farewell benefit at the Opera House last night the house was crowded in every part.— Mr O'Rorke M.H.R. has been appointed chairman of the Royal Commission on Education.— The St Leonards leaves for London to-day with a cargo valued at £90,000. Wool and tallow form the chief portion of the cargo. The ship Wairoa is also expected to leave the same day aa the St Leonards. The Primative Methodist Conference commenced its sitting in Wellington First Church this morning. Nearly 30 delegates •were present from various parts of the colony. The Rev. Daniel Dutton, F.R.A.S., of Auckland, was elected President, and the' Rev. Stewart Frassr, of Dunedin, VicePresident. The Rev. Joseph Sharp, of Timaru, wa3 elected Secretary, and the Revs. James Clover and James Guy, assistants. A deputation on behalf of the Corporation and City wailed upon the Minister for Public Works this morning to urge upon him the necessity for the immediate construction of railway wharf. The deputation waa informed by Mr Macandrew that all the arrangements regarding work were so well advanced that he expected to be able to call for tenders for the work some time nest week. The wharf is to be 650 feet long. Auckland, Thursday. John Pennan, proprietor of the Te Aro saw mills, was killed, while working, by a blow from a plank. He died in half an hour after the accident.

Dunedin, Friday. A watchmaker carrying on business in Rattray-street has been victimised by a man who had stolen a nugget of brass, and who succeeded in disposing of it to him for £3. The prosecutor said that although the nngget turned out to he pure brass when tested, it was such a beautiful deception that very few ju .ges would have thought of testing it.
