PARLIAMENTARY.
Wellington, Thursday night. The Government promised to make known when the Financial Statement is delivered what they intend doing regarding Charitable Institutions. The Government said they had no intention introducing this session a Land Drainage or Regulation of Coal Mines Bill. The Electoral and Licensing Bills were read the first time. Some debate occurred on Mr Hursthouse's motion for the production of all correspondence relating to the attempt to pull down the Taranaki triumphal arch, but the motion was agreed to. On the motion of Mr Barton a Select Committee was appointed to enquire into the state of the gaolß in the colony, and the improvements necessary to enforce proper classification. The Premier suggested that the matter would be better dealt with by a Royal Commission. The first division of the session occurred on the motion for a Committee to report upon Joshua Goodfellow's claims against the Government. Ayes, 23; Noes, 21. The Mercantile Law Further Amendment Act was read the third time and passed. 1 The Trade Union Bill went through Committee, and its further consideration was postponed till to-morrow. The House adjourned at 530 p.m. [From a Correspondent.] ou Wellington, Thursday. Mr bharp moved in Committee of the whole House for leave to introduce the Nelson Harbor Board BUI. Leave was granted and the Bill was read a first time The second reading is fixed for Wednesday next.
